TechCrunch 50 Unveiled
Arrington announced their second TechCrunch event. A virgin event last year, it started as TechCrunch20 before they upped the number of start-ups last year to 40. This year it stands at 50.
The chosen dates (September 8-10) are the same dates as DEMO's fall conference, held every year in early September in San Diego. This is tough on start-ups, VCs and press, many whom would love to attend BOTH events.
Each conference has their own unique style and draws many of the same players. By having another start-up launchpad on the exact same dates means that people will have to choose rather than having the liberty of attending both.
TechCrunch50 will have fifty new startups and products that will launch on stage over three days. Like last year, finalists will be chosen on merit and will not be charged to attend or present at the event. They're also changing venues (a good thing).
The San Francisco Design Center looks like it has much better flow and a more professional stage, that likely comes better audio/visual capabililties.
Keep your eyes and ears open in the coming months as more details are unveiled.
