Enter The Future Of Googlezon
I am one of those rare people in Silicon Valley who still subscribes to and enjoys reading 'real' magazines -- offline, in a hammock, on a couch, in bed, on an airplane. BusinessWeek is one of my many subscriptions so it was odd to read the Almighty Too Powerful Google article on paper before I came across it on a blog.
The recent issue's cover story refers to 2014 as the year of Googlezon, where we see a fearsomely powerful combination of search engine Google and Amazon, "which has crushed traditional media to bits."
They continue: "taking its place is the computer-generated Evolving Personalized Information Construct—an online package of news, entertainment, blogs, and services drawn from all the world's up-to-the-minute knowledge and customized to match your preferences. And it's all collected, packaged, and controlled by Googlezon."
The scariest stat was not about the future, but its economic power today - 2007. Apparently Google's market value is now at $144 billion, which tops Time Warner, Viacom, CBS, Publicis Groupe and the New York Times combined. Read on.
