Jaman's New World Film Play
Jaman opens their demo on the DEMO stage today with a flashy high quality video clip of 25 snippets of international independent films that most of us rarely get an opportunity to see. The founder says to the audience, "Jaman is the best place to discover and share world cinema."
He talks about the uniqueness of a window 'to the right,' the place where you can discuss films in real time. Comments can provide additional insight into a scene or spark multiple discussions about a movie.
You can watch the movie with or without these comments and you can flip through the movie to just the places where there are comments. The players also has a library view, where you can manage and display all the movies on your PC.
He adds, "We think its a great way to bring social into cinema." Even though they're only currently in beta, you can click through 100,000 films and 200 films at Jaman.com via a web browser. They are not delivering a DVD file, so they are not limited by DVD pricing or licensing.
Chris Shipley on Jaman's value-add: "Jaman accelerates that move by creating an outstanding viewing experience, coupled with community tools that enable independent film enthusiasts to find and enjoy great films."
Pricing will roughly be $1.99 to rent or $4.99 to buy. He finishes with a statement about DVD versus digital video - "It's not about the deaf of DVD, its about the birth of social video." They are encouraging people to submit their films for distribution.
