Miki for Mobile & Web 2.0 Plays
Today SocialText announced Miki, a wiki platform optimized for mobile devices. Ross Mayfield is on an innovation discussion panel with Red Herring's Tom Murphy and CNET's Michael Kanellos at Stanford today.
Ross lists a number of user cases on his blog. Even on the enterprise side, there's a need.
Europe-based investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein has been one of the beta testers of the mobile wiki. The bank has already deployed Socialtext’s software enterprisewide, extending wiki usage outside of the organization to some of its trading partners, according to Ross.
Ross talks about the Web 2.0 phenomena - the wave of another consumer Internet bubble and crash. But by when? He notes that it started with the growing popularity around social networking and grassroots journalism through blogging, RSS and later wikis.
Enter Ajax and a couple of stand-out plays that got investments when no one else could. Shortly thereafter, they were all acquired by one of the big boys. And that trend seems to be continuing.
