More NewCommForum....
NewCommForum had a number of sessions about bridging the cap between traditional communications and marketing and PR in the 'new media' world. Pheedo, Microsoft and NetConcepts spoke on RSS as an advertising platform, with Rojo, IDG, Corante and Eastwick taking on new ad-supported online publishing models.
Converseon, Backbone Media, and Ingenio talked about trends in search and we heard a handful of new advertising case studies from Envy Publications, qtags, Federation of American Scientists and Mindshare Interactive Campaigns.
There was a larger focus on PR and how its getting blurred with other functions.....The Mirror of PR: When Public Relations Becomes Part of the Story dived into the following discussion points:
--What advantages can PR Pros realize by blogging - internally and externally?
--Most PR blogs are too professionally focused. What are the boundaries?
--Journalists, analysts and influencers can learn more about a company's PR reps when they blog. What are the advantages and disadvantages?
--PR is now part of the story. Is this a good thing?
There was also an interesting session on the new ethics of mass communications, as well as a panel on citizen journalism and disasters. Reps from Bloomberg Marketing, Powerfully Funny and Brandtrust talked about the role of humor and fiction in blogs and marketing.
