Bruce Sterling Reads Poetry

Bruce Sterling does the closing keynote for SXSW Interactive.

While others may talk in more detail about his talk, what was most inspiring for me was his brave and warm heart as he read poetry by Carl Sandburg. Prior to launching into a much longer passage, he says, "When you quote poetry, it means that your heart is not broken."

Then he goes on to quote Sandburg. Here's a very short video clip which captures some of his reading here. It was really quite beautiful and touching. He receives a standing ovation. How could he not?

What surprised me was that some people in the audience didn't get it, not seeing the connection to his observation that in his home-away-from-home of Serbia, people still listen to poets and cry.
