Technorati Speculation
I absolutely love speculation discussions since they're often a gamble and we're swayed by things we often don't understand. And sometimes we forget to ask ourselves - is this opinion, emotional response or fact? And do I really value the opinion or fact?
BusinessWeek's Stephen Baker discusses the gamble on Blogspotting about where Technorati is heading. He also points to TechCrunch and Arrington's vote that Technorati is heading towards a Yahoo acquisition, whereas Baker thinks it could be Microsoft.
Arrington points to Yahoo's purchases of Flickr and Del.icio.us, as well as Liz Ganne's Red Herring article that list signs that Technorati, as well as MeasureMap, Digg, YouTube, could be in the Yahoo acquisition mix this year.
I have to admit that 'something' needs to happen soon and like a few who commented on his post feel, I'd prefer it to be Yahoo over Google or Microsoft.
With so much consolidation brewing, it makes me skeptical about who to sign up with in the coming year. I've had calls and requests from Silicon Valley start-ups, east coast companies, as well as those trying to make noise as far away as Israel......
It makes me wonder after every conversion - will I launch them to only six months later, find a new client because the launch was a short term strategy to merely get sold.
I often ask myself - is this a technology or a real business? I'm fan of building things and putting companies on the map. Love it. But longer term building yields more passion and more joy.
And as Guy Kawasaki points out in a speech he has given many times - "Take my word for it, happiness is temporary and fleeting. Joy, by contrast, is unpredictable. It comes from pursuing interests and passions that do not obviously result in happiness."
