Serendipity: Music and Then?
Odd serendipity or something like that. I had two songs that I connect to my wedding day - both obscure ones, meaning they're not played on the radio and while they may be part of a handful of people's collections, they're still not songs you'd tune in to or hear frequently. I heard both of them within 48 hours. A little odd don't ya think? Yet, we've all had this happen once or twice. Or for some of us, more frequently. It largely depends on how tapped into and aware of that frequency we are.
Hell, they're wonderful songs, so why not recognize them? :-)
Give Yourself To Love by Kate Wolf is a folk song that she wrote in 1982. A friend of mine reminded me how dated she was, in other words, what a 1970s-like song, and how old was I again?
Anyway, the song was fabulous at the time and place and frankly, still is.
"Altogether, Kate Wolf wrote close to 200 songs, and recorded 60. Without doubt, the most beloved of that group is "Give Yourself to Love," a gentle tune about conquering fear of intimacy and opening up the heart."
- Edward Guthmann: San Francisco Chronicle, 1987
The second one was from the musical Miss Saigon, which I first saw when I lived in London (yeah, in the late eighties, early nineties)....The Last Night of the World or my summary recap: Solo Saxophone.
The lyrics are amazing and you'll particularly relate to them if you're experiencing what Sting refers to here, and what Doris Lessing writes about here. During a significant period of time, we were going through both.
Both wonderful songs and nice to hear and cherish within a 24 hour period :-) Serendipity: thanks for a nice memory.
