White House Twitter: Formal, White & in Need of Human Face
Obama's original Twitter account has moved over to Twitter.com/whitehouse, a formal all white page with a shot of the white house in the photo box that resembles a stamp more than it does the abode of the most powerful man in the world.
I'm fascinated by this transition. Note: Can't wait to see the psychology and ecology behind this, other marketing decisions and what's next.
The Obama twitter account currently is following 767,080 people and has 1,058,270 followers. The backdrop is a warmish blue with a shadow of Obama's face appearing stage left. The new account, i.e., official White House account, is white with no personality or human energy, includes a postage stamp white house as its photo, has 27,126 followers and is only following 61.
Right now, the 61 are all organizations, not people and include the likely suspects among others:
National Science Foundation
USJFCOM remove
US Coast Guard
AIDSbooth
Womens Health
GovGab
NASA
Peace Corps
GobiernoUSA
OPM
Greenversations
TSABlogTeam
USGS
BusinessDotGov
HomelandSecurity
ReadydotGov
DHSJournal
Library of Congress
US Army Africa
FBI Press Office
CDCFlu
US Air Force
USFWS Pacific
Government Benefits
I'll be particularly interested in watching which followers migrate over first and if there are any patterns to that migration, i.e., by industry, gender, age, etc. As this transition happens, let's observe who the White House follows and why and also what kind of Twitter accounts pop up as a means of educating and alerting government staffers for what's happening in the world.
