Rebus Desktop: Clean Out Your Garage & End the Pile of Paper

Rebus_new_logo Everytime I think about my garage and home office, I'm grateful that client Rebus Technology is releasing Recollect Desktop today at DEMOfall 2008.

Despite all the promises of a paperless office, I'm buried in papers and know others who are in the same boat - at home and at the office. I teach college journalism part time and have piles of old articles, tip sheets, and exercises. I've got insurance and tax records back to the time when dinosaurs walked. I've got typed letters from Europe, from my mother, from my sisters when we were kids in summer camp and journal entries. Some guys have tools and parts. As a writer, I have paper. And, lots of it.

Recollect Desktop, the first product that sees inside a scanned document, will end that.

With it, I can scan in those letters and know that I can find them by using its desktop search engine and punching in my friend's name, or the city I was in or a restaurant I can't remember all the name of but part of it and Recollect takes over.

For the first time, you can scan and organize their documents onto your hard drives and instantly find and retrieve all kinds of PDFs, TIFF, JPEG and other unstructured files. You can scan random documents such as faxes, medical records, legal contracts, insurance and trustee forms, home mortgage reports, receipts, bills, estimates, newspaper and magazine clippings and photographs and Recollect Desktop will quickly and easily recall and list the relevant, even if you can’t remember where you stored them.

With a product that could really deliver on the paperless office -- or garage--I can find them by using any word I put inside. And wilder still, they will turn up even if I've spelled the name wrong or run together the words.

Rebus offers expanded features, scalability and functionality for enterprises which have an even greater need to end the 1.53 trillion pages of paper problem in this country. Their new version, launched today, is a huge win for individuals, the SOHO (small office, home office) market and small to medium businesses. Starting today, regular users can buy it for $149.

CEO Vijay Rangarajan, who invented the software for the first computer scanner back in the 80s, will be debuting this on the DEMO stage tomorrow afternoon showing off its features. Give Rebus Recollect Desktop a try if you want to make your home and office much more paperless. I can't imagine any reporter, accountant, teacher, sales rep, marketing exec, real estate broker, lawyer or doctor who would want to live without it.
