Where McCain Sits on Issues
A summary of key points below from Senator John McCain who addressed the D audience in San Diego this week. His responses were brief, and while he didn't really dive into individual issues, he gave us a glimpse of where he stood on each.
Re: Broadband and Telecommunications, he's for limited government regulation. He felt that the 1996 telecommunications act was over-regulated.
On Net Neutrality, he worries about the consolidation of it.
What about domestic Copyright and Patent Laws? He thinks they need to be reviewed.
On Education? "No Child Left Behind program was a good start....." AND.....egads, this is one I really wish he did elaborate on. The wealthiest country in the world remains behind on healthcare, cell phones and education - what's wrong with that picture?
On what he would do first in January 2009 if elected? He says, "I'd get the smartest guy I knew to re-start the Palestinian Israeli peace process moving again....." He also talked about creating a League of Democracies, i.e., the Europeans and other democracies to combine forces and create their own set of sanctions, outside of the U.N. if necessary.
McCain says, "My biggest fear is still the development of nuclear weapons being sold to or fallen into the hands of terrorists." He said that he prays every night we don't have to take military action against Iran or others but emphasizes, "we CANNOT allow them to develop nuclear weapons."
