ETHEL in San Francisco Soon
Reminder: The band ETHEL is playing in San Francisco on Sunday, February 18 at 3 pm, as part of the Morrison Artists Series at San Francisco State University School of Music and Dance, on 1500 Holloway Avenue.
Performing self-composed works as well as works by notable contemporary composers: Don Byron, Mary Ellen Childs, Pamela Z, Marcelo Zarvos, John King, Phil Kline and others, ETHEL incorporates rock, blues, classical, jazz and other popular genres to create a sound that defies categorization.
When I listen to them, I feel like I'm listening to a classical rock jazz performance all woven into one. The violin brings me serenity while I start tapping my feet to their energy at the same time I want to start clapping my hands to something else I can't quite put my finger on.
They have recorded and performed with one of my favorites of all time, Joe Jackson as well as Sheryl Crow, Gorillaz, Roger Daltrey, Yo-Yo Ma, Ornette Coleman, and Lenny Kravitz.
