Jailed for Blogging
The Independent today on the world's jailed bloggers, ah yes, one of the two papers I read when I lived in London. It is a great and fascinating about bloggers from around the world, including China, Iran, Tunisia, Vietnam and others, who have been jailed for blogging.
Two pieces are dedicated to this: Martyrs on the Web and the call to free the bloggers.
According to one Independent article, Amnesty International is launching a campaign on behalf bloggers and chatroom visitors arrested by repressive governments for expressing their personal views or disseminating sensitive information online.
They say that in an appeal issued today, "the human rights watchdog is urging webmasters around the world to stand up for their imprisoned fellow bloggers - in countries such as Iran, Tunisia, Vietnam and China - and denouncing major internet service providers, including Yahoo! and Microsoft, for providing foreign governments with the information they need to purge the web of dissenting voices."
