Chocolate Can Be In Beta: Who Knew?
August Capital had their annual networking bash last night on Menlo Park's Sandhill Road. It had a larger than most Silicon Valley networking crowd and included some familiar faces of old, such as Louis Rossetto and Jane Metcalfe (Wired founders), who I haven't bumped into since TED several years ago.
What was refreshing about my conversation with Jane is that it consisted of all things non-tech, refreshing at an industry event, where most of the conversations revolve around new services and products, not to mention the latest deals. I have to admit however, that since I was away, I missed a few interesting bits of industry news, so it was great to catch up. I ran into Barak and team and learned about Six Apart's Rojo acquisition.
Chris Alden, Rojo’s CEO, will become the vice president and general manager of Movable Type, and will work to expand Movable Type’s presence in the enterprise blogging market. Rojo will apparently be an independent subsidiary and continue to operate as usual.
What I also learned in my non-technology discussion with Jane is that chocolate can be "in beta," even in alpha, language I thought was only assigned to my world. They live in Amsterdam for three months a year, not far from a studio where I painted many moons ago, and Berkeley the rest of the time, where their chocolate company is on its way to birth, currently in late stages of alpha, soon to move into beta. Organic? Of course and much much more. I look forward to hearing about the launch and perhaps testing it along the way.
